I wanted to share with you a few of the cats who have made a special contribution to Cooncerto.

Not all of our cats enjoy being shown, so it is a special joy when we have a cat who enjoys being shown and who does not mind the early starts and hours of travel to get to shows!

My sincere thanks and my congratulations to the breeders behind these cats.

I was honoured to be accepted as the first Australian breeder member of the Maine Coon Breeders and Fanciers Association  in 2008.

MCBFA BREEDER MEMBER

REGISTERED BREEDER WITH FCCQ

In the beginning....

SDGC Gradach Democles  (Samson)

Red Classic Tabby Neuter

Born 12 July 1999

Sire: Kititas Durango Junior (imp UK)

Dam: Pussygooting Ginger Rogers (imp UK)

Samson was the start of this journey with Maine Coons for me. He was the first cat I ever chose as a kitten and I waited for what seemed forever for him to come home. He was was my first show cat, he was there when I started breeding Maine Coons, and through him I met a great friend - Cath Walker.

QFA  RESERVE LONGHAIR CAT OF THE YEAR 2002

SDGC, ACF Award of Excellence, CFA GC Rumford Indiana Jones (imp USA)

17 Sept 2000 - 5 Jan 2008

Sire: GC, RW, Rumfords Boxcar Willy DM

Dam: Oro Ojos Starstruck of Rumford, DM

Despite years of heart test history, both for Indy and his sire and dam, Indy developed clinical signs of HCM around his 4th birthday. Sadly, he passed over the rainbow bridge on 5 January 2008.

I still miss him.

THE MATRIARCH

Dee is mother, Grandmother or Great-grandmother to many of the Cooncerto kittens born here over the last decade. The title of Matriarch truely belongs to this girl. She is as ditzy and kittenish as she ever was.

Rumford Like a Dream (imp USA)

(retired)

Born: 20 Dec 2000

Sire: GC Rumfords The One After Nine O Nine

Dam: Ch Koontucky Gracie Allen of Rumford

Dee has a great history of heart testing by Veterinary Cardiologist Dr Brad Gavaghan. Her heart is still beautiful at the age of 10 years.  Results are available on my health page

Dee is thoroughly enjoying her retirement!

THE PATRIARCH

Just as Dee is the matriarch, Theoden is our patriarch! He is father, grandfather or great-grandfather and even great-great-grandfather to a whole host of Cooncerto babies Besides his good looks, his absolutely fantastic temperament is the thing that he has passed on to our babies.

TICA Ch Velvet Jewels Theoden (imp USA)    (retired)

Born: 17 Dec 2003

Sire: SGC Coonyham Gold Rush

Dam: Sarafina Tamaya

Theoden is now a perfect lounge lizard and foot warmer!

Theoden has a great history of heart testing by Veterinary Cardiologist Dr Brad Gavaghan.

His heart shows no signs of HCM or other heart disease. Results are available on my health page.

Daffi was my show cat in 2008. She retired from her show career to become a wonderful mother in 2009.

Daffi has had her heart tested by Veterinary Cardiologist Dr Brad Gavaghan and shows no signs of HCM or other heart disease.   An even better indication to me - her parents have been tested over many years and show no signs of heart disease. Results are available on my health page.

Quoddy and Flynn compete against each other at shows as they are in the same class. You can see by their titles that the competition is very close!

Above - the boys, Quoddy and Flynn

Lorraine has done a great job of showing the kids - half brothers born 2 days apart who were raised as part of one large family. They have great temperaments for showing and although quite different in looks are both beautiful examples of this breed.

Some of the highlights of their show careers:

  • 2010 National Show in Perth - Quoddy was Reserve Kitten under Allan Raymond (ACF)

  • 2010 National Show in Perth - Quoddy was Reserve Kitten under Tomoko Tanaka (TICA Japan)

  • 2010 National Show in Perth - Quoddy was 3rd Kitten under Cath Walker (ACF)

  • 2010 National Show in Perth - Quoddy was 9th Best Kitten under Betty Payne (ACF)

  • 2010 National Show in Perth - Flynn was 10th Best Kitten under Susan Game (ACF)

  • 2010 National Show in Perth - Flynn was 9th Best Kitten under Cath Walker (ACF)

  • 2011 National Show in Brisbane -  Flynn was 4th best alter under Yukiko Hayata (CFA Japan)

  • 2011 National Show in Brisbane -  Quoddy was 7th best alter under Yukiko Hayata (CFA Japan)

  • 2011 National Show in Brisbane -  Quoddy was 2nd best alter under Bernadette Roberts (ACF)

  • 2011 National Show in Brisbane -  Flynn was 6th best alter under Bernadette Roberts (ACF)

  • 2011 National Show in Brisbane -  Quoddy was BEST alter under Karen Pepler (SACC South Africa)

  • 2011 National Show in Brisbane -  Flynn was 8th best alter under Karen Pepler (SACC South Africa)

  • 2011 National Show in Brisbane -  Flynn was 9th best alter under Lynel Du Toit (SACC South Africa)

These guys also helped achieve BEST PREFIX for COONCERTO in the Longhair Section of FCCQ 's 2011 show year. (Most frequently placed cats in the top 3 at shows over a show season)

Cooncerto Gucci (retired)

born 10 December 2007

Sire:  Cooncerto Fhoenix Rising

Dam: Ch Maestro Miss Floyd (imp NZ)

Gucci's results from the CCCA National Show held in Brisbane (Australia) on Saturday and Sunday 19/20 July 2008 out of a class of more than 70 of Australia's top longhair kittens.

  • Ring 1 Diana Rothermel CFA USA - 7th best kitten, Best of Breed

  • Ring 2 Mary-Lise De Landtsheer FIFE - 4th best kitten, Best of Breed

  • Ring 4 Marion Cooper CFCCQ Aust - 7th best kitten, Best of Breed

  • Ring 5 Penny Blydinski FIFE - 8th best kitten, Best of Breed

  • Ring 7 Julia Nicholls FASA Aust - 8th best kitten, Best of Breed

  • Ring 8 Terry Merritt CFCCQ Aust - 8th best kitten, Best of Breed

Gucci looked set for a promising show career with these outstanding results, but she decided after this show that she did not want to go to shows any more. Although she did well, her happiness is more important to me.

Gucci now lives in Melbourne with Ellen and Chris and Ferdi.

Double Grand Champion Cooncerto FiddlerontheRoof

(affectionately known as Roofus)

Chris Lowes Best Alter in Show at the ACF National Show, Gympie 8 June 2008

I took the photo at left to celebrate Roofus' win and so that I always have something of this boy whom I love. He now lives with Danielle in Brisbane in luxurious and thoroughly spoilt retirement!

FCCQ RESERVE LONGHAIR CAT 2010

DGC Cooncerto I Sing Just Like Dylan

Cream Tabby and White Neuter

born 22 November 2009

Sire: Gradach Rhett Butler

Dam: BDGC Cooncerto Golly Miss Molly

Dyl inherited the Lounge Lizzard gene from his grandfather, Theoden. The pair of them can be found curled up on me in winter or near me in summer. His gravelly voice has softened since de-sexing - thank goodness since this boy inherited a talkative gene from his grandmother Dee.

He is a joy to have around the house! And although my husband sometimes suggests that I offer Dylan up for adoption, I hope that I can always talk him around!
